DAY 16

The Identity of the Church in the Fire of the Holy Spirit

Acts 1:8–9 (NASB)
8 but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.
9 And after He had said these things, He was lifted up while they were looking on, and a cloud received Him out of their sight.

At the heart of the Revival church beats a unique identity: we are the house of the Holy Spirit, a living river where the power of God flows without ceasing. We are not just a group of believers; we are empowered witnesses, born from the fire of Pentecost, ready to impact the world like the apostles of old. Do you remember that initial spark that made you say “yes” to Jesus? For the pioneering Pentecostal missionaries, it was not just a memory; it was the fire that drove them to cross oceans and cultures. They believed that baptism in the Holy Spirit was not an optional “extra,” but the very foundation of their—and our—identity as the church. It prepares us, fills us with power, and makes us bold witnesses, preaching the same message of Jesus: repentance and faith. The first converts received the same promise: the Spirit descending with tongues as the initial evidence, a physical seal that God was—and is—at work in His people.

This identity does not seek fleeting emotions; it is the starting point of an empowered life and ministry that defines who we are as a church. Luke, in Acts, makes it clear: the outpouring of the Spirit brings power to testify. The final words of Jesus echo in Acts 1:8 (NASB): “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.” Then, in Acts 4:31, after they prayed, “the place where they had gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak the word of God with boldness.” They preached with courage! That eternal pattern shapes our ecclesial identity:

Seek: We pray and wait with hunger for His presence, like a family united in fasting and crying out.
Receive: The baptism floods us with tongues and gifts, sealing our unity as the body of Christ.
Preach: We go out with courage, testifying in our “Jerusalem”—our community, city, or nation—and beyond, performing everyday miracles.

Today, as a Revival church, we are not satisfied with less. This is not a one-time event; Paul urges us in Ephesians 5:18 (NASB): “Do not get drunk with wine… but be filled with the Spirit.” It is a continual command, a constant flow that refreshes and empowers us. In a world that extinguishes the fire, our revival identity is this: we live filled, speaking with boldness, seeing miracles, and making disciples. The Spirit equips us to be missionaries in everyday life—in families, workplaces, or streets—extending the kingdom with Pentecostal passion.

Prayer: Father, as You did with those pioneers, pour out Your Spirit upon our church. Help us to seek You with all our hearts, to receive Your baptism in unity, and to preach Your word with collective boldness. May we be a living testimony of Your power flowing. In the name of Jesus, amen.

Action: Today, in your small group or service, set aside 10 minutes to pray for a fresh filling of the Spirit. Then, share in a circle a story of how God has worked in the church—a “bold testimony.” You will see the fire rekindled in everyone!
