1/16/26 - DAY 6

Discovering the Identity of God

Genesis 22:14 (NIV)

So Abraham called that place The LORD Will Provide. And to this day it is said, “On the mountain of the LORD it will be provided.”

We have an extraordinarily great, powerful, and infinite God and it is often difficult for us to fully grasp how great He truly is. Today, we will pay attention to other names through which He reveals Himself, so that we may know more of His identity and be encouraged to draw closer to Him.

Jehovah Jireh – “The Lord Will Provide” (Genesis 22:14)
In the story of Abraham, we learn that God is our Provider. Abraham trusted that God would supply what was needed, and God fulfilled His promise. In times of uncertainty, remember that God has the provision you need—whether physical, spiritual, or emotional.

Jehovah Rapha – “The Lord Who Heals” (Exodus 15:26)
God reveals Himself as our Healer. In moments of sickness or pain, we can cry out to Him, trusting in His power to heal not only our bodies but also our souls. His desire is to restore us completely.

Jehovah Nissi – “The Lord Is My Banner” (Exodus 17:15)
In life’s battles, God is our banner. He gives us victory over adversity, reminding us that we are not alone in our struggles. He is our defense and our strength.

Jehovah Shalom – “The Lord Is Peace” (Judges 6:24)
In a world full of chaos, God is our peace. When we trust in Him, we find rest in the midst of the storm. His peace is not like the peace the world offers; it is a peace that surpasses all understanding.

Jehovah Tsidkenu – “The Lord Our Righteousness” (Jeremiah 23:6)
Jesus is our righteousness. In a time when personal or social justice often fails, we find in God a perfect standard. His righteousness covers us and gives us hope, calling us to live in truth and uprightness.

Jehovah Shammah – “The Lord Is There” (Ezekiel 48:35)
We are never alone. Jehovah Shammah reminds us that His presence is always with us. As we seek Him during this fast, we can be confident that God is near guiding us and comforting us.

During this time of fasting, focus your heart on discovering the rich identity of God. Each of these names reveals an essential aspect of who He is and how He relates to us. As we reflect on His identity, we allow His power and love to transform our lives.

Action of the Day

Today, choose one name of God that resonates most with your heart and meditate on it. Write a couple of sentences in a journal, expressing how you can experience that aspect of God in your life. Cry out to Him for provision, healing, peace, righteousness, and His presence throughout the day. Stay attentive to the ways He manifests Himself in each of these areas, and share your experiences with someone to strengthen their faith as well.
